Cassie is pleased when a racer finally reaches an out-of-the-way maze path. Giving up the prize after a loss brings an unexpected worry: once it is gone, there will be nothing left to guard. The cheerful congratulations turn briefly into a question about Cassie’s purpose in the maze.
